BORROWING

Loans. Returns. Renewals. Hold Requests

Material may not be removed from the Library unless the required loan procedure has been completed.

To borrow material current UWI staff and students must have a valid UWI ID card. Other patrons will be issued with an GC Library ID card.

Material that is housed separately from the main collections or material that is stored remotely may not be available immediately on request.

All loans are subject to recall by the Library. When an item is recalled, the due date may change. Patrons will be advised of any change in due date. Items that are not returned by the recall date accrue a recall fine in addition to the normal overdue fine.

Patrons are responsible for all material loaned on their ID cards. Material which has been borrowed is the responsibility of the borrower until the item is returned and the record of the loan is cancelled.

If the Library is closed on the date on which an item is due, the new item due date is the next day on which the Library is open.

There is a book drop that may be used to return library material. On the days on which the Library is open, the book drop is cleared at 12:15 p.m. Mon. - Thur., and at 9:15 a.m. on Friday & Sun. The book drop is located in the lounge area.

There are Library charges for overdue, damaged or lost material. These charges are not refundable.

For regular loans and periodical loans, an item is assigned status ‘Lost’ and replacement charges applied to the patron’s library account when the item has been overdue for two weeks. For short term loans an item is assigned status ‘Lost’ and replacement charges applied to the patron’s library account when the item has been overdue for four days. For all other loans an item is assigned status ‘Lost’ and replacement charges applied to the patron’s library account when the item has been overdue for three days.

For regular loans and periodical loans items that are reported lost by a patron and are not yet due, or are less than one week overdue, the patron may be given up to a maximum of seven days before replacement charges applied to the patron’s library account.
