Important Events and Dates


On Thursday 31st January, 2013 the documentary film 'Forks Over Knives' was screened the UWI Open Campus St. Kitts site. The film examines the case for a diet that excludes meat, oils and processed foods. The attendees guided by three members of the local medical fraternity engaged in a lively discussion following the film.

Dr. Aleric Josephs, Lecturer in the Department of History at the UWI Mona Campus visited St. Kitts and Nevis from the 12th to 19th February 2011. Her visit to the Federation was to participate in the annual History and Heritage Week activities organised by the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society. While in the Federation Dr. Josephs took the opportunity to conduct workshops for students and teachers on the 14th and 14th February. In this regard she shared her wealth of knowledge with students preparing to write CSEC and CAPE examinations and also with their teachers.

Dr. Josephs gave a lecture on 16th February at the UWI Open Campus St. Kitts site. This event was well attended and the topic "Social Control, Gender and the History of Caribbean Education" was received with much enthusiasm by the attendees. On the 17th February, Dr. Josephs was part of a panel on radio which examined issues in education in the Caribbean today.


The first  UWI Open Campus (UWIOC) graduation was held in St Lucia on October 17, 2009. A small contingent of persons travelled from St. Kitts and Nevis to St. Lucia to attend this graduation exercise. The Governor-General of the Federation was in attendance as was the former Head of Site, Mrs. Olivia Edgecombe-Howell. Sir K. Dwight Venner, Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank attended in his role as Chair of the UWI Open Campus Council.

On Wednesday 17th November, 2010 the Head of our Site, Susan Owen and Sr. Administrative Assistant, Grace LaPlace travelled to Nevis to represent the UWI at the sixth International College Fair organised by the staff of the  Nevis Public Library under the leadership of Mrs. Lornette Hanley. This event is staged every two years and as usual the event was well organised.
