Admissions FAQ's

Where can I get help?

Applicants who encounter problems with any of our online systems can email our Help Desk at helpdesk@open.uwi.edu for assistance.

What exemptions might applicants receive and how do they apply for exemptions?

  1. For our certificate programmes, at this time, Pre-U will only consider exemptions with credit. We will not consider exemptions without credit. Exemptions will be considered only for courses making up our Tier I certificate programmes. Exemptions will not be considered for courses making up our Tier II & Tier III certificate programmes. Exemptions are given on a case by case basis through requests made to the Registry of Student Services. It is an online process activated for limited periods during the academic year. All registered students and OC staff members will receive notification by email that the process is open. The email will also provide an online link (URL) and instructions on how to complete the request. For Semester I (2010/2011) the process will be opened from Sept 2 – 24, 2010.

  2. Three courses make up our Tier I certificate programmes: Math Essentials for Tertiary Level Study; Reading and Writing Essentials for Tertiary Level Study; and a course that is meant to introduce students to the particular field.
Students will be considered for exemption from Math Essentials for Tertiary Level Study if they possess at least a Grade I pass in CXC/CSEC/GCE Math or an equivalent course of study.

Students will be considered for exemption from Reading and Writing Essentials for Tertiary Level Study if they possess at least a Grade I pass in CXC/CSEC/GCE English or an equivalent course of study.

Students will be considered for exemption from the course that is meant to introduce them to the field if they have received a B grade or higher in an equivalent introductory course, from UWI or a tertiary level institution recognized for normal matriculation at UWI.
