Regional Headquarters, Mona Jamaica W.I.  Friday, 07 October 2016 – The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce that its 2016 graduation ceremonies will be available for viewing via live stream beginning with the Open Campus on Saturday October 8, 2016 in St Kitts and Nevis. Chancellor, Sir George Alleyne will confer degrees at a total of ten ceremonies hosted by the University’s four campuses to celebrate the achievements of thousands of graduands across the region.

St. Kitts and Nevis to Host the 8th UWI Open Campus Presentation of Graduates Ceremony

St. Kitts and Nevis will once again celebrate the achievements of graduands of The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus, in a grand Presentation of Graduates Ceremony to be held on Saturday, October 08, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, Frigate Bay, Basseterre.

Open Campus Guild of Students Induction Ceremony

Congratulations to the new 2016/2017 Open Campus Student Guild of Students (GOS) Executive. Their Induction Ceremony was held on Friday, September 9th in Jamaica, with representatives from seven Caribbean countries. The new OC Guild President is Mr. Howard Brown.

Distinguished Antiguan Physician to Receive Honorary Degree at the Open Campus 2016 Graduation Ceremony in St. Kitts & Nevis

Dr Sir Prince Ramsey, will be conferred with an honorary degree as Doctor of Science (DSc) at the next Graduation ceremony of the Open Campus of The University of the West Indies (UWI), which is scheduled to be held on October 8, 2016 at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort at Frigate Bay in the country of St. Kitts & Nevis.

The UWI Open Campus and the OAS Sign Memorandum of Understanding

The University of the West Indies (UWI) and the General Secretariat of the Organisation of American States (OAS) through the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Friday, August 5, 2016.  This is a symbolic gesture demonstrating the parties’ commitment to the implementation of a project entitled, “Expanding the Socio-Economic Potential of Cultural Heritage in the Caribbean.  Phase II: Implementation of Project Components”. 

UWI Open Campus Bahamas Site Launches Global Giving Week

In an effort to accelerate its drive for self-sufficiency, the University of the West Indies has launched a global initiative, Global Giving Week (August 1-7, 2016) under the theme, Emancipate, Educate, Donate.  

Initially launched at Mona, Jamaica on Friday, April 8, 2016 similar launches were held at St. Augustine, Trinidad and Cave Hill, Barbados.  Given the wide reach of The UWI Open Campus launches were held in Belize on June 30, 2016 Saint Lucia on July 8 and Antigua and Barbuda on July 12, 2016.

Eleven Honorary Degrees at The UWI 2016 Graduation Ceremonies

The UWI Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. 10 August 2016.  Members of the Council of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) approved 11 honorary degrees to be awarded at the University’s 2016 graduation ceremonies. The ceremonies are expected to kick off at the Open Campus in St Kitts and Nevis on 8 October, followed by the Cave Hill Campus in Barbados on 15 October, the St Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago on 20-22 October and will conclude with the Mona Campus in Jamaica on 28-29 October.

UWI Open Campus to sign MoU Agreement with the Jamaica Constabulary Force

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

The hurricane is the natural disaster most likely to befall our region.  Notices of a hurricane are issued several hours prior to landfall by each island’s local Emergency Management Agency.   This gives the Open Campus ample time for the orderly and effective securing of University buildings, equipment and other property before the actual hurricane, and for staff, not required to be on the premises, to leave and see to the welfare of their homes and families.
