UWI students set for historic China initiative

The UWI Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. 05 February 2018—Twenty-five students from the BSc Software Engineering at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Mona campus, along with their parents, met with Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles and Jamaica’s Minister of Education, Senator the Hon Ruel Reid on February 2, 2018. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the terms and conditions of their departure for Suzhou, China later this year as part of the programme.   

Open Campus Saint Lucia and Msgr. Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre Celebrate 70th Anniversary of The UWI with Film on Derek Walcott

The UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia in collaboration with the Msgr. Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre), will on Thursday 15 February, at 7:00p.m. celebrate The UWI's 70th Anniversary of service to the region, with the presentation of a documentary film on the late Sir Derek Walcott.

The UWI honours first Vice-Chancellor

Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. 15 January 2018—The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has declared 23 January, 2018, “W Arthur Lewis Day”. As The UWI celebrates its 70th anniversary, its Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) will commemorate the work of Sir Arthur, the University’s first Vice-Chancellor, and celebrate 70 years of research contributions to economic policy and process in the Caribbean.

The UWI announces title of ‘Chancellor Emeritus’ for Sir George Alleyne

Regional Headquarters, Jamaica. 06 December 2017—At a meeting of its Finance and General Purpose Committee (F&GPC) on October 30, 2017, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) conferred the title of ‘Chancellor Emeritus’ on former Chancellor, Sir George Alleyne.

Emeritus is a designation given to the former holder of an office, who having retired is allowed to retain the title, for example a University Professor. 

The UWI launches LUMIN Consulting

The UWI Regional Headquarters, Jamaica, W.I.  05 December 2017.  It was standing room only at a gathering on 23rd November to unveil the newly branded LUMIN Consulting—a development consulting firm wholly-owned by The University of the West Indies (The UWI), comprised of a dynamic and driven team, headquartered in Kingston, Jamaica.
