How Do I Rent or Purchase a Gown, Hood, or Mortarboard

The UWI Graduate Gowns, Hoods and Mortarboards will be available for sale through the Open Campus, Saint Lucia.

Graduands may RENT Gowns/Hoods/Mortarboards from the University on payment of a deposit representing the purchase price indicated below.  This deposit must be paid at your local Open Campus Site and will be refunded less the rental charge of BDS$75.00 for Gowns, BDS$40.00 for Hoods, and BDS$50.00 for Mortarboards. You must bring the receipt indicating your payment to Saint Lucia where the academic dress will be issued.  When you return your gown after the ceremony, your receipt will be stamped indicating this.  On return to your local Site you will be issued with your refund on presentation of your stamped receipt.

COLLECTION AND RETURN OF GOWNS, HOODS and MORTARBOARDS

Certified Bank Cheques, Bank Drafts or Money Orders for the equivalent in Barbados currency for the purchase price/rental deposit of the gown/hood/mortarboard, should be made payable to The University of the West Indies, Open Campus.  Cash payments will also be accepted at your local Site.  Please note that personal cheques will not be accepted after September 28, 2018. Please check with your local Site for their opening hours for payments.  No payments will be received outside of this arrangement.

Gowns and Hoods may be collected from the Open Campus, Saint Lucia from WEDNESDAY, October 10, 2018 to FRIDAY October 12, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Gowns/Hoods/Mortarboards should be collected by the graduand ONLY.

GRADUANDS MUST PRODUCE THE RECEIPT FROM THEIR SITE BEFORE BEING ISSUED WITH THE GOWN/HOOD/MORTARBOARD. 

SPECIAL COLLECTION ARRANGEMENTS FOR NON-RESIDENTS

Non-resident graduands who will be attending the Ceremony can collect their gowns from the Open Campus, Saint Lucia Site up to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2018.  If you are arriving on the morning of graduation, you must inform the Senior Assistant Registrar, Assessment, Awards and Records one week ahead of graduation so the necessary arrangements can be made to have your academic dress reserved for you at the venue.  

If you are requesting someone to collect on your behalf, please indicate so in writing to the Senior Assistant Registrar, giving the name of the person, who must present their identification.

GRADUANDS SHOULD NOT LAUNDER GOWNS/HOODS, AS THEY WILL BE CLEANED PRIOR TO DISTRIBUTION.

REFUND OF DEPOSIT FOR ACADEMIC DRESS

The deposit, less the rental fee of BDS$75.00 for Gowns, BDS$40.00 for Hoods and BDS$50.00 for Mortarboards will be refunded only when the garments are returned to the University in good condition.

Refunds will be paid at your local Site from Monday, October 15, 2018 on presentation of your stamped receipt indicating that you returned the academic dress in good condition.

If you wish the refund cheque to be paid to someone other than yourself, you should indicate this in writing when collecting your gown/hood.

Graduates in Saint Lucia should return the rented Gowns and Hoods to the Open Campus, Saint Lucia Site by Friday, October 19, 2018.  Failure to do so by this date will result in a fine of BDS$50.00 up to Friday, October 26, 2018 and BDS$100.00 thereafter.

In addition, the full deposit paid for the rental of the Gown/Hood/Mortarboard will be forfeited if these items are not returned to the Open Campus, by Friday, November 2, 2018.

GOWNS/HOODS/MORTARBOARDS must be carefully examined before receipt as they will either not be accepted in damaged condition, or if accepted, a penalty fee will be charged.
