Anguilla Country Conference 2017

Theme: ANGUILLA: THE UNFINISHED REVOLUTION?
Considering Nation Building and Self-Determination

Wednesday 19th – Friday 21st April 2017

 

The Anguilla Revolution was a response to social and economic realities. The uprising was concerned with removing administration by St Kitts, to ensure that Anguilla experienced meaningful social and economic development. It was a watershed in the forward movement of Anguillian people. The memory of the Anguilla Revolution continues to fuel the desire of Anguillians to create other watershed events in Anguilla’s development.

Presentations must engage substantially with the theme and maintain a focus on processes or mechanisms for national, community, personal and global development, as well as political and social maturity and improvement in the quality of life through revolution, innovation, transformation, and change management. Dimensions of revolution, innovation, incremental and radical change may be discussed in the context of politics, economic and socio-cultural development, technology, law and the environment among others.

Topics to be considered include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Self-determination, Independence and Revolution
  2. Memory and History
  3. Culture
  4. Migration and National Identity
  5. Participatory Democracy
  6. Economic Realities in Small Island States
  7. Taxation and Development
  8. Media, Communication, and Community Action
  9. Crime, Order, Disorder and Development
  10. Education and Nation Building
  11. Health and Development
  12. Food Security
  13. Family and Nation Building
  14. Human Rights, Gender and Development
  15. Youth and Development
  16. The Environment and Development
  17. Maritime Development
  18. Regional and International Linkages in Nation Building

Interested presenters are invited to submit an abstract of no more than 250 words accompanied by a cover page outlining:

  • (i)Title of the Paper
  • (ii) Author’s name
  • (iii) Author’s Contact Information (email and telephone, mailing address and institutional affiliation where relevant)
  • (iv) Bio-data of no more than 50 words.

 

Submission Deadlines:
Abstracts to be provided by: 15th January 2017
Full Paper to be submitted by: 28 February 2017
