Open Campus Guiding Principles
The Open Campus of the University of the West Indies is based on the idea that the high-quality university education, research and services available at our institution should be open and available to all people who wish to reach their full potential inside and outside of the Caribbean region.
The Open Campus adopts quality teaching and learning experiences, innovative pedagogic design, relevant research and community partnerships to deliver face-to-face, blended and online learning to all of its communities.

Establishing the Open Campus 2007-2008
The University of the West Indies had as one of its key strategic aims of its Strategic Plan (2007 – 2012), the creation of an Open Campus “ to enable the University to expand the scope, enhance the appeal and improve the efficiency of its service to the individuals, communities and countries which it serves ” ( UWI Strategic Plan , p.31).
The UWI Open Campus is an amalgamation of the previous Office of the Board for Non-Campus Countries & Distance Education (BNNCDE), the School of Continuing Studies (SCS), the UWI Distance Education Centre (UWIDEC), and the Tertiary Level Institutions Unit (TLIU).
The Open Campus at UWI is simultaneously a virtual campus with 50 physical site locations in over 20 countries in the English-speaking Caribbean.
Its is currently developing and implementing a range of methodologies and formats for the delivery of Open Campus programmes, including blended learning modalities (face-to-face, online, and distance) along with the distribution of print and software materials.
